Reasons For Building a Boat, By Mick Storer

“Sometimes it’s not about the boat…”

(Painting copyright free, by Hiroshige)

OK, this image may not make sense to you in this context..

Mick (Michael) Storer has a fascinating piece on his website.  He begins by recounting his days and the characters at a boatyard where he once worked in Australia.  At times, his stories remind me of my own days at a yard, where I learned to push, pull, and lift.

Here’s his premise:  “Anyway … back to my narrative.  It was invoked by the idea that ‘not finishing’ a boat is a type of ‘failure’.”

Rather than quote extensively, I’ll just give you the link and let you read and comment:

What do you think?  Thanks, Carl
